The course won’t be recorded

We pride ourselves in delivering a live, interactive course where students can ask questions, get involved and provide feedback, thoughts and input to the course as it happens.  There are many pre-recorded options available, but we think that it makes a better learning experience to really get involved and to keep that group atmosphere, so we don’t record our sessions.

We also want to respect the privacy of our students and friends: this is a safe learning space where growth and personal development can take place. We know from experience that it’s quite common that people get a bit nervous or uncomfortable when sessions are being recorded and therefore won’t participate in group discussions etc – and we want everyone to feel safe, to be able to express themselves, without being recorded.

Then there’s also GDPR: it’s against data protection regulations to record and share events without the permission of ALL participants.

You’ll get a completely comprehensive Yoga Nidra manual – so if you miss a session or want to repeat something after the course – no worries! Everything is in the manual!
You’re also very welcome to repeat the whole online course with another group whenever you like, for just an admin fee: £50 in total!

Feedback from Previous Students

Melanie is simply the most amazing teacher! She creates a wonderful sense of safety, honesty and community. If you can do a course with her - do it! You'll learn loads, be nurtured and have fun!
Emily, UK

I have really enjoyed the course it’s been the most relaxing and inspiring way to learn about pranayama in a much more detailed way than I have before, it has improved my own practice enormously and I already feel so much better for it.
Clare, UK

It's been such a great course, so well-paced and structured, so much info but lots of time to experience and teach which really helped the learning. Rina and Melanie created such a warm and welcoming environment too. Mel's a fantastic teacher and Rina did a brilliant job of fielding all the questions and keeping us all organised and on track. Thank you
Caroline, UK

Thank you and thank you for such a brilliant course
Lesley, UK

This was a fantastic and very comprehensive course. Melanie created a safe and fun environment in which to learn and teach the practices. It was a great mix of science, personal experience, and opportunities to teach. I loved the way everything was optional, this made having a go feel really safe and unintimidating. Brilliant!
Caroline, London

I have been practicing yoga for twenty years, I have been teaching for six.  It was a long time that I wanted to deepen Pranayama both as a personal practice and to feel more confident in transmitting it to my students.  I had no doubts that Melanie would offer a high quality teacher training (I did others with her and this was already a guarantee for me). However, this teacher training far exceeded my expectations.  Melanie has enriched the cultural background I had on Pranayama with totally new contents for me, the scientific research, the sharing of her experiences and path, the practice sessions were surprising. I was afraid that not speaking fluent English I would feel in trouble and would “lose bits”, but with the support of the video manuals, slides and the ability to have continuous feedback with Melanie, it was unexpectedly easy.  The atmosphere of the online classes was one of non-judgement and the possibility of expression (doubts, requests need for support).  Melanie’s respect and harmony with Rina and Josephine was also perceived throughout the course.  For me, being able to follow it from Italy was a wonderful opportunity.  I will definitely recommend this teacher training to other people; I am enthusiastic about it.
Elisa, Italy

This course has been amazing. I am already using the teachings in my classes. I loved all the insights and yoga practices to prepare us for the breathwork.  It’s been an amazing course and even though I only manage to do 2 live due to class commitments I knew that Melanie was always available if I needed advice.  Thanks so much for an amazing course.
Sharon

Melanie is an excellent teacher, she relays the information in such a relatable way and I love all of the science, which she also explains really well.  The course was really broad and I loved that it also covered the trauma too. 10/10
Pennie

I really loved this course. It has given me a deeper understanding and respect for Pranayama. I love Melanie’s way of teaching she makes everything accessible for everyone
Jenny

The teaching was very clear, very comfortable to understand as a not native English speaker.  A good amount of information per week.  The organization was comfortable. There was a feeling of community also I did not know anybody but felt like a circle through zoom.  No pressure for teaching, the files made it easy to retreat it by myself again, which helped.  Overall, great teaching and definitely recommendable.

Melanie makes all the practices and theory so accessible and understandable. I came away with so many great take aways. It also helped me to understand why certain practices maybe hadn’t worked for me in the past and why. The course also gave me confidence to share pranayama with my students.

The Pranayama course was excellent.  Melanie’s teachings were thorough and presented with great clarity. The community of teachers and students was a joy to be part of and teaching practice with peers was incredibly valuable

Melanie has put together something really wonderful with this Pranayama TT. I loved every minute and would recommend it for any teacher who wishes to feel more confident including breath work in their classes or for those that just want to know more for their own personal practice.

The course was brilliant. I love Mel’s teaching style, she’s such a great teacher. Can’t wait to do more courses with her and The Shala

It was a fantastic learning experience, excellent content, clearly explained. Melanie always creates a lovely safe space in which to practice together as a group which really helps learning

This was a wonderful course, taught with skill, wisdom and generosity by Melanie, with wonderful input from other expert teachers too. I loved it

We have experienced a lot over the years – and what we keep coming back to is how important it is to be authentic, to find “your voice” as a teacher and to have the courage to be YOURSELF when you are teaching! Working as a yoga teacher is amazing – but it also takes a lot of energy – and can be very draining if you are not looking after yourself. (And it’s so easy to not give ourselves that time/attention/selfcare – so in the training we will also put emphasis on how to create space for your own health and practice: to stay balanced and mentally strong!

Location

Online via Zoom – from the comfort of your own home!

Who For?

We recommend that you have done a 200 hour teacher training (any style) but this is not mandatory! If you haven’t: send us an email and let us know and we will look into what other experiences you have and we’ll give you extra support during the course.
The intention is to give you, as a teacher, more tools, to broaden your teaching skills as well as your target groups. Perhaps you have done a training in a dynamic yoga style and would like to add a slow style to your teaching menu as well – to be able to teach back to back classes at studios and retreats?

We will cover

Theory and science behind the practice

  • The nervous system and the brain

  • Meridians and the energy system

  • Fascia

  • Updated research, the different aspects of yin yoga and how it is applicable to different body types and how personalities, and how movement patterns plays an important part.

Anatomy

We’ll look into the specific areas of the body in more detail, how they move and respond to the Yin poses.

Teaching the poses

Our focus is very much on teaching the practice in a way that is inclusive and safe for everyone making this a nurturing and healing practice, a way to connect and go deep inside; a way to truly relax and rejuvenate.

For each pose we will cover:

  • How to teach yin yoga poses

  • How to use props

  • Modifications for each pose

Sequencing & Class planning

  • Sequences for specific meridians, for specific yoga poses (eg for backbends, opening the hips, twists, forward bends), and a general all round class

  • How to plan a class, when and how much to talk, what to talk about and themes.

Contraindications and modifications

How to develop your classes for conditions such as pregnancy, injuries and hyper-mobility, making the practice accessible for individual bodies

Course Manual

As part of the course you get two full colour manuals included in the price: one on the theory and one giving details on the poses. We will send you the manuals as pdf:s  one week before the course starts.

– Yin Yoga Theory, 80 pages

Yoga Theming Course Overview

Learning how to choose, present a weave a Theme into sequences as a Yoga Teacher is a wonderful way to keep your classes inspiring for  students and interesting for you as a teacher. It is common for many teachers to “sandwich” themes in at the beginning and end of the class, which is not as powerful as a class that seamlessly interweaves and integrates a theme throughout.

Learn to share the wisdom of yoga teachings through this workshop with long time teacher and lead Level 2 teacher Jennie Wadsten Sharma. Jennie teaches in an accessible, fun way and interactive way, encouraging Yoga Teachers to find their authentic voice and helping them to spread their yogic knowledge in a comprehensible, intelligent and useful way.

“Using themes saves me so much time and energy! I used to make a new yoga sequence for each class and even though I enjoyed it, it often stressed me out: it felt like I had to come up with something new for each class to make sure the students didn’t get bored… Nowadays I often reuse my favourite sequences and just tweak them a bit – and focus on using a new theme for each class instead – and the students LOVE it! Last week we focused on transitions – both between poses and transitions in life – and I got amazing feedback. Thank you so much Jennie for all the tools you have given me!”
Sarah, UK

“Thank you so much for a fantastic day. I’m still buzzing! It was so much more than “just” a workshop: thank you for creating this safe space. I loved the brainstorming and that we got support both from you and from other teachers. Having a community is so important!”
Anna, Sweden

Yoga Theming Course Overview

Learning how to choose, present a weave a Theme into sequences as a Yoga Teacher is a wonderful way to keep your classes inspiring for  students and interesting for you as a teacher. It is common for many teachers to “sandwich” themes in at the beginning and end of the class, which is not as powerful as a class that seamlessly interweaves and integrates a theme throughout.

Pranayama Teacher Training Online

I see Pranayama as the “missing link” in todays yoga scene. It’s the part of the 8-fold path that takes us from the asana to the meditation. It regulates the body, the heart, the blood pressure and the functioning of pretty much all the systems of the body. Once the body is in balance the brain and mind can become balanced, THEN we can find the peace to meditate. My favourite quote is from the Hatha Yoga Pradipika “When the Prana (breath) moves the mind moves, when the Prana is still, the mind is still”. Come and experience the magic for yourself - then share it with your students… You will not be disappointed…

Pranayama Course Reviews

I loved it

We have a set structure in line with Yoga Alliance’s criteria, but on top of that we have a certain amount of hours that we can tailor for YOU – and as far as we know, this is quite unique: for you, as participants, to be able to take part in forming the course content!

(And it’s so easy to not give ourselves that time/attention/selfcare – so in the training we will also put emphasis on how to create space for your own health and practice: to stay balanced and mentally strong!

We will cover

  • A non-dogmatic approach.
We will cover the main techniques and modern schools of Yoga Nidra and what they offer. You’ll get the chance to compare and explore different methods to see which works the best for you.

  • The structure
A detailed look at each stage of the practice; the intention behind it and how it affects the body and mind.

  • Modifications. Contra-indications.
How to adapt your teaching for different students

  • Basic science of Yoga Nidra.
Brainwaves, Hypnagogia, Basic anatomy of the brain, states of consciousness

  • History & Philosophy

  • Stress

  • Your own practice

After completion of this course you will get a 30 hour Yoga Alliance Yoga Nidra certificate. If you already have a 200 hours Yoga Teaching certificate you are now certified to teach Yoga Nidra!
