Yoga Anatomy : Embodied Wisdom
I find anatomy so interesting and challenging and engaging. It adds so much to my practice and to my sequencing and teaching. I absolutely love to share anatomy in a way that is grounded very firmly in yoga, in a way that helps you connect to yourself more deeply and understand the practice more fully.
I offer a pre-recorded on demand course via The Shala
and
A two day in person course via The Breathing Space in Derby
Course Overview
I know many people struggle with anatomy so I promise I will guide you through this training with sensitivity, patience, and good humour.
My aim is to ignite your passion for yoga anatomy and for you to be able to apply this knowledge to your classes in a way that will take your teachings to a deeper level.
The yoga world is evolving to understand that poses don't have alignment β people do. All bodies are different, and each person is unique β this makes the job of being a yoga teacher complicated but potentially more interesting and rewarding.
We will take a functional approach to anatomy including looking at topics such as hips, twists, backbends, forward bends, shoulders, the knee, bandhas and more as a route to healthy balanced functional movement.
Anatomy Course Reviews
Melanie is an incredibly knowledgeable teacher with so much wisdom as well as impressive knowledge of anatomy and biomechanics. Her classes and teacher training both create a space that allows you to go deep and learn so much in a space held with lightness and love. An excellent teacher both of yoga and of other teachers.

Anatomy nerd out in real life. Beyond exciting to be in the studio with other students and teachers! π First day of four-day creative anatomy course did not disappoint ... what a unique take on taking account of and understanding studentβs anatomy in teaching yoga! ππ»

Thank you to these two beautiful humans for filling my brain with anatomy knowledge for the past four days. I have learned so, so much. You bring lightness and fun to a subject that could be (very) dull to learn. I have enjoyed the ability to join in the practical sessions and communicate with the other students - virtual learning has opened so much for me.

All things yoga anatomy ... including the breath and the science of pain. Fascinating! π€© Truly blown away with how comprehensive my Creative Anatomy course @theshalalondon was - part of my Level 2 Teacher Training. It takes real skill as an educator to convey such complex information effectively and accessibly; @stu_girling and @melaniexcooper did it beautifully. Gratitude ππ» To top it off they made us feel relaxed in such a time of fear and well, just able to be ourselves ... oh, and having fun is a given with these two! π€£ My mind is now buzzing with rethinking lots of cues I use and excited π to implement some anatomical logic on my sequencing.
